    Hi,

The intro to the album Third (track: Silence) is a sample of Claudio Campos - does anyone know the translation?

    thanks

Not sure if it's correct but I've read it somewhere:

"Be aware to the rules of three. What you give will return to you. This lesson you have to learn. You only receive what you deserve"

That answer is correct, as I already posted on the previous forum and someone referred in some other thread before in this one.

I guess it's supposed to be translated »...the rule of thirds.« or am I wrong?

There is no place like 127.0.0.1

According to this Guardian Artilce: http://music.guardian.co.uk/pop/livereviews/story/0,,2273243,00.html

Silence was originally called "Wicca" and the verse spoken by Claudio Campos (a Capoeira master who teaches in Bristol) is an adaptation of The Threefold Law - 'Heed and beware the Rule of Three: three times thy acts return to thee'. It's an old Wiccan precept about reaping what you sow.

A less literal English Translation of what he says in Portuguese is:

Beware to the rule of three. What you give comes back to you. You should learn this lesson. You only receive what you deserve.

Thanks for clarifying that. I was afraid he was subliminally telling me to go on a killing spree or something.

Here's a bit of info for when FOUR is ever released.

Everything falls back into FOUR. Every word, number, letter breaks down into four.

For instance, take PORTISHEAD, the name has TEN letters, TEN has THREE letters, THREE has FIVE letters, and FIVE has FOUR letters which cannot be further broken down. Every single word can be broken down to the 4.

Just a little piece of trivia.

Hey Damo. I've never been very good at math, but have always been into number's games, especially when dealing with symbolism. A friend of mine actually told me about the FOUR connection a few years back, then within a week or so, synchronistically, I actually read about it again in a 'numerology' type book on trivia. Just thought I'd share the basic breakdown of the FOUR since we were talking about the meaning of the intro on the THIRD disk...Wink

I also find the FOUR factor interesting in the fact of 4 main points on a directional compass, 4 points on a cross, 4 main elements of earth/fire/wind/water, 40 days and nights of flood in the Bible, 40 years of wandering through the wilderness, 40 days of Christ's temptation, 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse, '4 Noble Truths' of Buddhism,  etc, etc, etc....

thanks for that mate,i find things about numerology interesting although i dont know enough about it and havnt really read up on it,i think the last book i read which had a little bit to do with it was the da vinci code, and because i found most of that unbelievable i didnt know if the bits about numbers (was it pi or something?) were true, anyway how are finding third?

I never read the 'Da Vinci Code' but pretty much know what it's all about as I've researched most of the "conspiracy theories" relating to the Dan Brown novels, the Vatican and Knights Templar. It was way overhyped in my opinion, and most of it is based on speculation and fiction. There is SOMETHING MORE to it all, but in many ways Brown serves as a smokescreen for the actual "conspiracy", and became a multi-millionaire in the process. It's like Harry Potter. On one hand the Vatican "condemns" these books, while on the other hand, it's bringing more attention and publicity to the Catholic Church.

Considering PI, yes it's another one of those key numerical factors, as it's the circumference of a Perfect Circle, which many researchers associate with the base value of the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Also the "23 Enigma" as popularized by Robert Anton Wilson in the 70's with his "Illuminatus" books, which might (or might not) also be related to the situated position of the Great Pyramids (based on the 23.5 degree tilt of planet Earth on its axis).

Of course there are 7's and 9's, and the ominous 666. Twelve and Thirteen are also numbers with very mystical connotations. 22, 33, etc, etc.

Some people, over the past few years, have stated they are seeing increased instances of 11:11 on their clocks, while many await the end of the Mayan Calendar in 2012, tied in with various other world prophecies which seem to announce the "Great Purification" a "Revelation" or just the plain old political "New World Order" which is ushering in a new age.

As for THIRD...? It's da bomb! Though, I do agree with someone else's comment in another thread that a little more bass couldn't have hurt the album overall, but it's still pretty awesome. All in all, THIRD seems a little more confined, a little more haunted and troubled and insecure of itself, but I definitely dig the sound and have been a Portishead fan since around '96. Great to have new material finally available, and seriously hope they'll get back in the studio again in the next couple of years for a follow-up.

Another album before 2012 should hopefully be doable. Since it seems this has been their most successful album so far, at least in terms of charts, maybe that will be more incentive to create more music?!?! .Wink

     In the meantime...

The chthonic triad as a three-headed snake.
In this alchemical instruction for androgyny,
one and three snakes represent the uniting of the
    One with the Three
    , or "Divine Union".
